A few things worth knowing.
Your app chooses which providers it supports. Check provider support for Direct and Vault availability.
The user’s provider account. Models, billing and credits stay with the provider. Outlet resells nothing.
No. Direct checks the Direct API key’s format on the device and refuses Vault admin keys. It never calls the provider. Caps belong to Vault.
Not yet. Subscriptions aren’t keys yet. Their door, not ours. OpenAI has opened its door to some apps. Outlet connects API accounts today. Those have their own balance, separate from a plan.
A Vault admin key lets Outlet manage app access in the user’s account. Outlet uses it to set up Vault connections, read spending and revoke Vault App keys. Apps never receive the Vault admin key.
Outlet creates a workspace for the app’s Vault connection. Create an API key in the workspace named on Outlet and paste it into Outlet as the Vault App key. Outlet checks that it belongs to the workspace.
No. Outlet reads the provider’s spend reports and revokes the Vault App key at the Vault cap. Reports can arrive late, and an app can spend past its Vault cap before access stops. Revoking Vault access may not stop work the provider has accepted.
No. Direct needs no Outlet account. Your users paste their own Direct API keys into your app.
